To Be the Best, Read the Best

Recently I’ve started reading through NPR’s top 100 ‘Killer Thrillers.’ Some of them are old, some of them are new, but they all share one thing in common: they’ll keep you up at night, and many of them will make you afraid to go to sleep.

To write well, you have to read well. As Stephen King said, “If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have time to write.”

At the time of this post I’m on #7 of the list (I started from the top down – I know, it’s not exactly the right direction to go in). I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve never read The Shining before, and only slightly less ashamed to admit that I’m 3/4 of the way through it and refuse to read it right before going to bed.

If you think you’re up to it, try to make your way through the list. If you don’t have the time, pick and choose your favorites!

All of the books on the list are guaranteed to thrill.
