Neil Gaiman Starts The Week Off Right

If he wasn’t also one of my favorite storytellers of all time, Neil Gaiman could make a living churning out inspirational quotes.  I’ve yet to read one that I didn’t love.

“Short stories are tiny windows into other worlds and other minds and dreams.  They are journeys you can make to the far side of the universe and still be back in time for dinner.”

“A short story is the ultimate close-up magic trick – a couple thousand words to take you around the universe or break your heart.”

With all the short fiction I’ve been writing recently, these thoughts make me smile and want to keep going (which I will).  A great way to start the week!

What are some of your favorite inspirational quotes?  Which ones inspire you and make you want to get up and chase your dreams?

  1. Hi. Thanks for visiting my blog. Perhaps the most inspiring saying and certainly my most often used reminder-to-self is this:”Better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.” 🙂

  2. I love inspirational quotes – they are like energy shots also enjoy writing short stories for exactly this reason. You can have fun and go on an adventure but be back in time for dinner – what a great quote thanks for sharing

  3. “Real happiness is impossible without solitude. The fallen angel betrayed God probably because he longed for solitude, of which the angels know nothing.”

Chekhov was a short story master, writing 201 of them before his death at age 44 (that doesn’t include his plays!). The STUDENT, PEASANTS, VANKA are few personal favorites.

  4. I was just looking for a bit of inspiration for my daily journal entry. You’ve put me on to something. Thanks for posting.
