Love Letter To A Shoe – Free Verse Poetry

I used to love a shoe,

the way it would take me through

all the puddles of despair,

allowing me to keep on going without

getting drenched or succumbing to doubt,

and carry me so high I felt as if I flew,

to foreign countries over oceans impossibly blue,

making sure my steps always stayed true,

on the path it was the glue,

that kept me in one piece,

and I will always rue the day we

came upon that uncrossable void,

and I was unable to pass through,

without removing this shoe,

leaving it behind,

what could I do,

a slew of reasons I had to say goodbye too soon,

and most heartbreaking of all,

that shoe was you.
